QR CODES

Choose print materials for a review QR

A QR card is handled, cleaned and exposed to changing light. The best material is the one that stays readable in its actual location, so a small physical proof is more useful than a catalogue description.

A practical workflow

  1. Consider the environment

A café table faces spills, while a clinic reception may require frequent surface cleaning. Choose a format staff can maintain without hiding the code.

  2. Check reflections

Glossy finishes and covers can reflect lights into the camera. Move or angle the stand if glare interferes with scanning.

  3. Plan replacement

Keep an approved artwork file and a simple replacement process. Review the sign when it becomes marked or faded.

Avoid this mistake

Do not assume lamination always improves scanning; test the finished material.

What to check

Observe scan attempts in the actual lighting at different times of day.

Test the whole physical journey

Check both the printed code and the page behind it. A successful scan is only the entry point: the customer still needs to recognise the business, describe an experience and understand the Google handoff. Use the final material under ordinary lighting. Keep a copy of the approved artwork so a replacement does not accidentally introduce a different destination.

Preserve a QR code’s clear margin →

The empty area around a QR helps a camera distinguish the code from its surroundings. Logos, captions and decorative borders should not crowd that space,.
