QR CODES

Choose QR placements customers can actually use

A QR works best where customers have both a reason and a moment to scan it. Visibility alone is not enough if the surface is awkward, the lighting is poor or staff are asking people to move on.

A practical workflow

  1. Match the moment

Choose a counter, exit or information card where the visit is naturally complete. Avoid interrupting the service itself.

  2. Check the physical setup

Look at glare, shadows, reach and nearby clutter. A code behind glass or at knee height may be technically visible but impractical.

  3. Watch a real attempt

Ask someone to scan from the usual standing or seated position. Improve the placement before changing the review page.

Avoid this mistake

Do not assume that a larger poster fixes a code placed where customers cannot comfortably stop.

What to check

Compare successful scans during observation with the number of people who noticed the invitation.

Test the whole physical journey

Check both the printed code and the page behind it. A successful scan is only the entry point: the customer still needs to recognise the business, describe an experience and understand the Google handoff. Use the final material under ordinary lighting. Keep a copy of the approved artwork so a replacement does not accidentally introduce a different destination.

The empty area around a QR helps a camera distinguish the code from its surroundings. Logos, captions and decorative borders should not crowd that space,.

A design can scan perfectly on the owner’s newest phone and still frustrate customers using another device. A small test across ordinary cameras gives more.
